TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS- 09 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS- 11 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted). AGE REQUIREMENTS:
This position is covered by the law enforcement officer retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d). Applicants for this position must not have reached their 37th birthday upon appointment to this position unless there is sufficient prior Federal service in a covered primarily law enforcement or firefighter position to permit retirement on or before the mandatory retirement age for these types of positions. We must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked. You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
Have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9 in the federal service, that provided experience in 1) instructing wildland fire methods and techniques. 2) instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in wildland fire; 3) administering a training program; and 4) developing training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., to evaluate training results. OR Have a Ph.D. or equivalent graduate degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., from an accredited college or university with major study directly related to the work of this position, e.g., education. OR Have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education, as described above. To compute this, first determine your education as a percentage of the education requirement; add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal 100% to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of two full years may be used in this calculation. Selective Placement Factors:
This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. In addition to meeting the qualifications listed above, you must meet the Selective Placement Factor listed below. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified. Have a minimum of 90 days of wildland firefighting experience. Wildland firefighting experience is defined as any non-structure fire that occurs in the wildland. Wildland firefighting experience is gained through work on the fire line in containment, control, suppression, or use of wildland fire. Wildland fires are categorized into two distinct types:
Wildfires and Prescribed Fires. Wildfires are unplanned ignitions or prescribed fires that are declared wildfires. Prescribed Fires are planned ignitions. This description includes only fireline experience on a Prescribed Fire; it does not include experience in the planning stages. Prescribed fire experience must be supplemented by fire suppression experience in order to be creditable as previous wildland firefighting experience. The work environment is varied and includes office work, which includes sitting in one position for long periods, concentration and attention to detail, where the field work requires strenuous physical exertion of extended periods. The duties of this position require incumbent to meet prescribed physical requirements of emergency incident response before acting in those positions. Working Conditions:
Work is primarily office work in a conference room or classrooms with groups or individuals. Field assignments may include living and working outdoors under primitive and sometimes hazardous conditions.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
