This position will be a Wildlife Biologist for the Kanuti National Wildlife Refuge (NWR).

U.S. Citizenship Required Be sure to read the How to Apply & Required Documents Sections. You will be required to carry a firearm in performance of your duties. As a Wildlife Biologist, you will:
Plan and execute wildlife surveys to determine population trends, patterns in reproductive success, timing of nesting events, etc.
Write reports from monitoring data, present results, and enter data in database.
Collect, identify, preserve, and catalog specimens.
Help train and supervise temporaries and volunteers.
Assemble and maintain field camp supplies and equipment for extended monitoring projects.
Operate small boats, snowmobiles, four-wheel all-terrain vehicles, motor vehicles, and or other light equipment.

Basic Requirements: Have completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's Degree or higher with a major in a biological science that includes the following course work: 1) at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND 2) at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate); AND 3) at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences. OR Have a combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a major in a biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours) , with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects; AND 12 semester hours in zoology; AND 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as described above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.The quality of the combination must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above.

Examples of specialized experience at the GS-7 is participate in wildlife field inventories and monitoring studies; collect, compile, and summarize field data; assist in preparing project updates, annual reports, and oral presentations. 1 full year of graduate level education in wildlife biology or related subject matter OR Superior Academic Achievement during undergraduate studies OR a combination of graduate education and experience may be substituted for the experience.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-9 is plan and conduct wildlife field inventories and monitoring studies; collect, compile, summarize, and interpret data; prepare reports, publications, and give technical presentations; assist in preparing wildlife management plans; recommend habitat management practices. 2 full years of graduate level education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in wildlife biology or related subject matter OR a combination of graduate education and experience may be substituted for the experience.

Knowledge of statistical, databases, GIS and other computer programs and technology necessary to collect, analyze, display, and present data to professional and general audiences.
Skill in operating snowmobiles, small motorboats and non-motorized craft; running remote field camps; running bird and mammal capture, handling, marking, immobilization, and tracking operations; and knowledge of the equipment needed to carry out these operations.
Skill in written and oral communication.
Ability to work effectively on a team and to provide technical expertise and support to other staff.
Skill in performing biological inventory, monitoring, and research investigations.
