The Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program was established to expand access to confidential, face-to-face counseling and reduce the barriers and stigma often associated with seeking counseling supportIn 2007, the Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counselor position was added to the MFLC Program to provide additional nonmedical counseling opportunities to the military service members' families by supporting their dependents within schools, child and youth development centers (CDCs), and child-oriented programs they attend (e.

, summer camps).
The Child Development Center (CDC) embedded counselor positions have the primary responsibility of providing the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at Child Development CentersWe are currently seeking qualified CHILD Counselor (CYB) to support the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) program at Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, AlaskaSalary and leveling commensurate with experience.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:
MFLC CHILD counselors provide services to children of military service members to increase their ability to develop strong relationships, solve problems, and adequately express and manage their emotionsMFLC CHILD counselors are assigned to Child Developmental Centers (CDCs) on installationMFLC CHILD counselors work closely with military branch points of contact (POCs) to ensure that program services are provided within the scope of the contract and meet the needs of the assigned installationEssential duties, tasks, and responsibilities include, but are not limited, to:
Working alongside and/or (in line of sight) with child/ren individually, in classroom settings, and in group activities throughout their daily settings.
Providing brief,non-medical, solution focused counseling to children and families.
Providing psycho-social (OSD-approved) lessons/groups aimed at targeting childrens' social-emotional development, relationship building, communication/social skills, deployment/reunion stressors, grief and loss, stress, conflict, life transitions and other issues that arise.
Collaborating with CDC personnel, parents, and administrators in order to promote the healthy development of children and youths' social-emotional competencies and capacities.
Interacting with children and parents during special events, such as field days, award luncheons, sports events, parent groups, and center activities.
Conducting briefings and/or presentations, as requested to students, teachers/professionals and/or parents.
Providing referral resources to participants who need a greater level of care or to those that are not eligible for the MFLC program.
Providing outreach services to parents and the installation command staff.
Submitting Activity forms daily, to show 8 hours of direct daily contact.
Reporting time daily for employer and government.
QualificationsNecessary Skills and Knowledge:
Working knowledge of relevant military, state, federal, and local laws and resources.
Working knowledge of psycho-social development of children.
A thorough understanding of the military lifestyle and experience working with military family members.
Ability to understand, apply, and maintain professional standards.
Highly developed written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Proficient in iPhone, iPad and other APPLE technology/products.
Minimum
Qualifications:
