Summary:
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is accepting applications from qualified individuals for openings as an Emergency Dispatcher with the UAF Police Department.
Duties:
10Maintain individual records for each incident for each department.
Record police activities in both hard copy and digital form as required.
Provide initial input of all incidents into police records management system for use by UAF Police and as needed by Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities.
Extract data and statistics from data systems for accountability and financial uses.
Essential 10Provide for Police and after hours for Facilities Services call out.
Assist with UAF shuttle bus dispatching and public information as required.
Assist processing documents to prepare for outside agencies and district attorney office.
Provide copies of legal documents and recordings upon request.
Essential 20Processing site for communication contacts via telephone, fax, email and over-the-counter verbal or handwritten, which is critical and essential for the daily function of all UAF facilities.
Interpret and evaluate scope of request and provide planning assistance to requester as needed.
Determine appropriate department response and assignment in a vast variety of grade and department options.
Translate laymen description into trade terminology to provide clear and concise work description for safety and security staff and student personnel.
Enter approximately 10,000 incident logs and service requests annually into a specialized computer program.
Proficiency and accuracy of coding is crucial for the extraction of information to be used by management for statistics and requests for response utilized to manage budgets for Communications, Police and Fire.
Finalize completed requests for service by evaluating consistency of written and computer records for validity and accuracy.
Records are legal documents in both criminal and civil processes and discrepancies are reported to the Supervisor of Emergency Communications.
Edit all records for appropriate spelling, grammar and political correctness to ensure highest possibility of protection of University's liability in incident response.
Performs digital download of audio files from the recording server for legal requests.
Able to troubleshoot problems with the recording system and train other dispatchers in its use.
Monitor Zetron radio and the existing campus alarm systems.
Essential 25Support Safety Services by serving as primary information and inquiry point, which includes greeting, assisting, providing information, and directing students, staff, faculty, customer sand visitors.
Receive, respond and route requests, concerns, comments and complaints.
Service requests require extraction of valid and useful information to assess nature, scope and urgency of problem; apply sound judgment and quick response.
Direct appropriate personnel to emergency situations.
Communicate information efficiently and effectively via UHF radio, telephone, email and fax.
Discretionary screening, routing and interpretation of numerous telephone calls.
Assist Police and Fire Departments with requests for information regarding public safety incidents, security and injury prevention.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all records and assure discretion of student employees.
Essential 30Provide Emergency Communication Services.
Responsible for initializing appropriate response to emergency situations for campus as well as Fairbanks community.
Information is obtained via Enhanced 911 system, telephone, interpersonal and/or radio system.
Responsible for determining appropriate response level and department(s).
Works closely with all other departments in North Star Borough to assure mutual aid agreements are fulfilled and most efficient and effective resolution of emergency situation to assure limited loss of life and/or property.
Utilizes priority response system for providing emergency assistance to victims prior to arrival of emergency personnel.
Assures University's interests in limiting liability and fulfillment of expectations of community.
Monitor and utilize multiple radio frequencies to ensure efficient and effective radio communications among emergency response personnel.
Receive, identify and properly process emergency requests for medical, fire and/or police assistance.
Maintain constant contact with all involved parties to ensure best possible outcome to the situation.
Assure safety of police officers by providing them with all pertinent information and monitoring location and welfare at all times.
Essential 5Clery Act Compliance.
Performs duties as assigned to support Clery compliance.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must be able to work in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.
This includes, but is no limited to; answering multi-line telephone system, monitoring multi-channel radio frequencies, and assisting routine and emergency callers.
Must be able to type 35 words per minute, with 90% accuracy.
Responding to emergency situations that are extremely challenging and stressful.
Ability to stay focused, calm, and professional during stressful situations and events.
Provide excellent verbal customer service skills at all times.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information acquired during course of employment.
Ability to use office equipment, computers, and able to understand and learn various types of software programs and record management systems.
Ability to work 10-12 hour shifts as assigned.
Must be able to pass background investigation.
Preferred Experience & Education:
6 months customer service or non-emergency dispatching.
Required Experience & Education:
High school diploma or GED.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time, term, 12-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule Grade 77, step 14, $25.
74 per hour.
