Summary:
The UAF Environmental Support Services unit will provide developmental planning and environmental services to Fort Wainwright in accordance with the recently signed Intergovernmental Support Agreement (IGSA).
The NEPA Compliance Officer will be the subject matter expert for the team and provide knowledge in all areas of environmental services.
This person will assist in the development of plans and tasks to ensure compliance in support of Ft.
Wainwright and support filed work as needed.
Duties:
1-50Program Management:
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Compliance Officer will monitor all aspects of the NEPA compliance process to ensure that the U.
S.
Army Garrison Ft.
Wainwright meets all local, state, and federal NEPA requirements.
This candidate will develop informative products to ensure services and activities around Ft.
Wainwright is informed of the NEPA requirements and understands how to report violations of NEPA compliance.
The NEPA Compliance Officer will prepare, disseminate, and receive approval on timely and accurate NEPA reporting documents in accordance with local, state and federal environmental compliance requirements.
The NEPA Compliance Officer will develop an annual schedule of inspections, reviews and briefings to ensure the Ft.
Wainwright Garrison is NEPA compliant.
Essential 25Policy Procedures and Compliance:
The NEPA compliance officer will be the subject matter expert on all requirements contained with the National Environmental Policy Act.
This person will assist Ft.
Wainwright and the Department of Public Works in understanding and translating these requirements into tasks to be performed by the UAF Environmental Services Divisions in accordance with the recently signed IGSA.
Essential 3-15Task Development:
The NEPA compliance officer will help Ft.
Wainwright developed courses of action to ensure compliance with the NEPA.
This person will work with other team members to build understanding, share knowledge and generate options to ensure compliance in each category of environmental services provided by UAF.
Essential 4-10Other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act.
Strong Public Administration Skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to develop strategic plans.
Knowledge of DoD systems, procedures, policies, and processes.
Ability to be self-motivated and to complete tasks in a timely manner.
Preferred
Experience:
1-2 years of experience working in environmental science.
Strong written verbal communication skills.
Environmental field work.
Ability to use Google suite of tools and Microsoft software.
Ability to develop a working relationship with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Demonstrated experience working in the DoD/U.
S.
Army environment.
Required Education or Training:
Bachelor's degree in a biological sciences, fish and wildlife conservation/management, resource management or other related environmental fields.
Ability to access military installations in Alaska.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Experience in conducting scientific field work is preferred.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 81, based on education and experience.
